Stuff… it creates dust, takes up room and means the average family can burst out of even the biggest house. I don’t like stuff but I do love photos, tickets, keepsakes and little things that help me remember the good times. I’ll admit it I’m a memories junkie! It was my birthday last week and I can happily say that I didn’t get a lot of ‘stuff’, my friends and family know that I’d rather have an experience than a present.
Over the last few weeks (okay, I’ll be honest, months!) I’ve been planning our holiday for October this year. Time together is something incredibly important to us as a family. When I met Sean he was working 100 hours + at a five star hotel, creating amazing food but the time we had was very limited, sometimes he would be getting into bed at 2am only to be up at 5:30am to oversee breakfast service. Whilst I understood being married to a Chef would mean I wouldn’t see a lot of him, some of those days could have been frustrating. Early on we learnt how to have all the fun of a full day together in an hour or a minute if we had to. Today, we do have a little more time together as a family however we still treasure the time we have and squeeze every moment out of it. Who knows how many of these moments we will have, how many holidays, how many days off? I take none of that for granted so it’s fair to say that choosing just the right villa for our annual break involved trawling through 101 websites and at least 2 shortlists to get somewhere perfect. I can happily say that we are now booked and looking forward to some family down time in the sun.
When we have milestones as a family we really try to make the most of them. Recently Ella lost her last baby tooth, Sean wasn’t happy with popping a 50p under the pillow, he wanted to ensure she had a personally illustrated letter and envelope. As it happens, she’s a memories junkie just like her mum so absolutely adored this surprise from the (chef) tooth fairy and promptly put it in her memory box to treasure for years to come!
_One of the nicest parts of Sean’s job is getting involved in making memories for people and being part of creating them. Whether that’s re-creating a favourite dish from a special holiday for a couple, a hen party or special birthday. A recent example was cooking for the wedding evening of a couple who decided whilst in the Cumbria to pop across the border to be married in Gretna Green! As we are moving towards the summer a number of bookings have been from people like me who want to have that memorable holiday. Adding the service of a professional chef can make that UK break really special. Sean can cover across the UK and we have been able to establish some great partnerships with both holiday cottage and events companies to enhance what they can offer. Contact us if there's anything we can do do to create memories for your occasion.
I'm Linder, Mrs Wilkinson aka Mrs Chef /Sean's missus. There was no chance of getting Sean out of the kitchen long enough to write a blog so I'll keep this up to date with what we're up to and Sean's news. I'll also give you a flavour of the rollercoaster that is life being married to a Chef!
